Should I book my Wedding Videographer during the Coronavirus pandemic?

2020! Wow! What a year! A very stressful year indeed for brides and grooms-to-be.

For those of you who were meant to get married this year, I really feel for you. You have probably put months or even years of planning into your big day, all that time and effort that goes into every intrinsic detail to make sure everything is perfect and booked in on that specific date. Then, due to a global crisis your big day has been dashed and you are left feeling extremely deflated.

Whether your wedding has been cancelled or you have chosen to reschedule so you can have the wedding you want, with friends and family present to celebrate with, it is still a devastating position to be in. 75% of weddings that were due to go ahead in 2020 have been rebooked for 2021.

This has obviously caused some anxiety about booking in wedding suppliers as we can’t be 100% sure of what the next two years will bring. I’ve seen bride-to-be’s post in Wedding groups, “I’m not sure if I should wait to book in a videographer yet, or wait until nearer the time”, and “I’m not as enthusiastic about organising my wedding as I was re-pandemic, I’m worried about booking in wedding suppliers and then losing money if we face another lockdown”.

With the rules constantly changing and updating there can be no certainty of what the “new normal” will be like over the next year. Additionally, different parts of the UK have different rules on weddings, so it is important to keep up to date with changes in your area. For my North East based brides in England, a maximum of 30 people will be allowed to attend your wedding from tomorrow, 15thAugust; assuming this ease in the restrictions isn’t postponed last minute like it was two weeks ago.

The best way to overcome this anxiety is to contact the wedding vendors. You aren’t going through this alone, and they will be ready with some answers to your questions regarding safe distancing, cancellation policies, payments, etc. In fact, they will be more than ready with answers because they will just be as anxious as you about providing a service that is safe and reliable to their clients.

It’s not only wed-to-be couples that have been impacted this year but the whole wedding industry has; every business associated has had a huge financial devastation and they will be working hard to ensure they are ready to offer a service that fits with government guidance so they can get working again, and give you a day to remember.

If you are rebooking with the same vendor, then be aware that there may be a slight increase in charge due to inflation. However, they cannot just hike up prices to profit from the pandemic. Unfortunately, some companies have chosen to take advantage of desperate couples because they are locked into a contract. If you do feel unfairly treated by a business then you can contact CMA by filling in this form. They have a designated taskforce to investigate any consumers who have been taken advantage of with harmful price increases.

Thankfully, I have been able to rearrange every single one of my weddings from this year into next year’s diary. However, the downside to this is that I do not have much availability for next year and a lot of other wedding vendors are in the same position.

Therefore, if you are looking to have a wedding videographer in 2021 or 2022 make sure you explore the options for your area and send out enquiries. The same goes to booking any wedding vendor. Make sure you ask all the questions that would be holding you back from booking so the supplier can provide detailed answers to reassure you. Lastly, make sure you read the contract. This is very important; you will know exactly what to expect should there be any personal or global complications that will affect your big day…. again.

For any North East brides wanting further information in regard to my videography services, please feel free to get in touch! I'm currently offering a £50 only deposit to secure dates into my diary, rather than the usual 20% This is to provide that extra little relief for couples, as it is a tough time for everyone financially at the minute.
